Finally!

We have finally found an internet connection! We are resting today at a hotel here in Mireblais and enjoying some rest and relaxation, after two very long days of caring for more than 400+ Haitian men, women, and children. We set up our clinic in a church on the side of a cliff in a very rural and isolated area several miles outside of town. We treated some people who had walked for many hours to get there. Some were carried in and were very ill and some just took advantage of the opportunity to get a check up from a real doctor. We passed out vitamins to everyone we saw, most especially the children and the throngs of expectant mothers. The Great Commission Alliance (GCA) has built a comfortable guest house and is caring for us well. They have made it very comfortable for servant-hearted people to come and serve the people of Haiti. We have also been helped by college students who have been displaced by the January earthquake. They have served as our very capable translators for Bible teaching, medical services, and crowd control. In conversations with them their love for the country of Haiti is evident. They were studying towards a variety of liberal arts degrees in Port Au Prince including linguistics, history, sociology, and literature. I saw several of them put the needs of the people at our clinic before their own as they gave their food away to hungry ladies who had been standing in line all day. Currently they are living in tents by the river and are not certain what their future holds or how they will return to classes. Their campus buildings are in ruins and many of the faculty members were killed or displaced as well. Tomorrow we are setting up shop at an orphanage and will try to meet the basic medical needs of children and the mamas that care for them. The GCA has recently sponsored this orphanage as they have been relocated from Port to Mireblais. After the earthquake the children were without any food or clean water and the GCA came to their immediate rescue. They have continued to support them and supply them with food and water. The future plans are to provide them with beds, better living quarters, educational opportunities and financial support. Pray for us as we continue. Some of our team is struggling with allergies, injuries, and various gastrointestinal issues. Still we persevere and are happy to be serving this beautiful country and people. For the team...beth hendry
